Post 9: My Second Pregnancy and Birth

My second pregnancy was a surprise.

While we were trying to get pregnant since my son turned age two ( because (a) it is recommended to wait at least 18 months between pregnancies when C section is involved and (b) we wanted kids closer in age groups.) the pregnancy was not happening and there was added stress in the life.

So when I missed the period and my boobs began to feel heavy I was quick to get first response pregnancy tests from Walgreens.

I took the test and waited impatiently and with dejection set in my mind. Because the first time I took the pregnancy test in 2017 that pregnancy led to miscarriage. So in my mind I was skeptical. I never took one with my first born, just couldn’t get to do it for the fear of losing the pregnancy again.

Anyways as the test turned positive I was baffled. I was very happy indeed but totally taken aback. And I thought I will surprise my husband with those fancy pregnancy announcements. But being the impatient me I had to tell him as he came home from work. And his reaction was even funnier than mine because he asked me how long I had known ( I am guessing he thought I had hid the pregnancy from him and only told him later on)

Anyways so that was the start of a beautiful blessing but little did I know that I was in for a roller coaster ride with this one.

As Covid was prevalent all around and vaccination was just getting started that very first month into the pregnancy I had a date set for my first covid vaccine. Now I had read reports that the vaccine led to miscarriages and even the center advised against it. But this was a decision I took after consulting with my husband and my Gynac. The first dose was okay as I had minor pain in the arm and it was manageable and I would schedule appointments so that I could understand whether the pregnancy sustained or not.

The second covid vaccine was horrible on me. I had started to develop a fever only slightly and was in bed for almost a day and half. I even took Tylenol again after consulting my gynac.

And then after that disaster in July my son caught the coksackie virus

Refer about that here: https://vishlesha87rana.blogspot.com/2021/07/the-viruses-going-around.html

Then my son developed pneumonia from playing in a water park. I want him to have a normal childhood but with all these ill

nesses I prefer to put him at home rather.

The remainder of the pregnancy was alright as at 20 weeks of gestation age I was told that the baby is measuring small. This from 29 weeks into birth I would have to go for weekly ultrasounds sometimes twice in a week. It was very tiresome to go to work, then go to ultrasound and then go pick up my son from daycare. There were times when I thought I couldn’t do it  and at those times I did not push myself. But as I was working two days from home I was still able to manage.

In October my company was to change hands to become another company and my due date was in less than a month. I have fought hard for the WFH in my situation and then at the last month I had to go five days a week and had to put my kid in for five days a week in daycare.

This pregnancy has pushed me mentally, physically and emotionally. And that is why I am enjoying this time that I have gotten to myself with these two little beings.

I am proud of all that I have gone through, all that I was able to achieve and everything hereon because What I found in all of this is myself.

That person that I always questioned and still do at times, that person who has been with me all throughout and who is going to be with me until I die. I have finally found love for that person.

The birth was planned for a Tuesday and I took my son and we slept with my mother so that I could leave early the next day and my son and his sleep would not be disturbed. I woke up many times that night because my son would wake up scared. The next morning I left with my husband to my own apartment, took a shower and then left for my scheduled C section at 10 am.

The nurse came in checked the baby, pushed some saline though Iv through me and then after a while I was on the OT and receiving epidural. During both my epidurals I cried profusely. I guess I was scared and afraid and running through so many emotions that I would cry profusely both times. The nurses were very good to me during this time and I highly recommend Holy Name Hospital for Labor and Delivery. With my first as well the nurses were very helpful, but I was so anxious as I didn’t know what to do with a newborn so that experience was totally different.

Anyways the baby was born, they showed her to both of us, and then dad went to cut the umbilical cord. I was strapped to the table so couldn’t move and had a mask that was making it difficult to breathe so the anesthesiologist put oxygen on me.

And then after she was born I was just too sleepy.

That is my second pregnancy and journey.

I am so so thankful to be able to carry both my kids to full term, and bring them to life, have my body go through so much each time and stand up stronger than before each time.

And I am immensely thankful to the people who have helped me in both my journeys to become a mom.
